Infinitely Organic.
Some might say we’re driven. When our engineers lock themselves in our sound design labs for months on end, you might say we’re obsessed. We have been dedicating ourselves to forging a collection of the most organic, luscious, expressive, and versatile modulation effects ever heard.
It was an enormous mission—we painstakingly studied the nuances of the legendary modulations of celebrated tremolo effects, phaser pedals, chorus units, and more from the last five decades. We didn’t stop at faithfully capturing these warm and lush vintage sounds—we expanded their vocabulary with extended versatility and sonic possibilities never before heard.
Open Up the History Books of Music.
Mobius gives you twelve legendary, versatile, and inspirational modulation machines, all in an easy-to-use package. Go from mouthwatering vintage chorus sounds all the way to syrupy psychedelic phasers. Get classic, pulsating tremolos all the way to warbling crushed bits. Mobius opens up the history books of music and provides new sounds and inspiration for all of your musical ideas.
We knew we must surpass what has been done—in sound design, audio quality, hardware design, and processing power. Utilizing an insanely powerful SHARC DSP, every drop of power is harnessed. Top it all off with 200 presets, full MIDI implementation and a unique Pre/Post Mode and you’re on your way to modulation ecstasy.
12 Versatile Modulation Machines
Mobius provides twelve studio-class, fully tweakable, and completely adjustable modulation machines:
Chorus
The Chorus machine features five distinct modes to cover all the classic chorus sounds, from the variable-clock warmth of the dBucket, Multi, and Vibrato modes, to the crisp and clean 80s sounds of the Digital and Detune modes.
Flanger
The Flanger machine’s six modes are designed to deliver the historic catalog of flanging tones with maximum ease of use. Choose from the color-coded Silver, Grey and Black (+ and -) modes for vintage stomp flanger tones, or go through zero back to the days of tape flanging with the Zero+ and Zero- modes.
Rotary
The Rotary machine captures the sonic swirling complexities of a variable horn and drum rotary speaker. A variety of parameters let you shape the system’s sonics and mechanics.
Vibe
The Vibe machine lives and breathes with the warmth and depth that discerning vibe fans will appreciate. Control over waveshape symmetry, low end response, and headroom allow for precise under-the-hood adjustments.
Phaser
The Phaser machine’s modes ensure that you’re able to easily dial in chewy 2, 4 and 6 stage phasers as well as swirly 8, 12 and 16(!) stage phasers. Each mode was painstakingly tuned for optimum sonic performance.
Filter
The flexible Filter machine gives you Low Pass, Wah, and High Pass filter modes, with resonance control and a host of cool waveforms, including envelope control, to allow for soothing sweeps, funky wahs, and futuristic bleeps.
Formant
Say what? The Formant machine does the talking for you. The Formant machine provides hours of fun as a host of selectable waveforms control the selected vowels. Select random vowels, and who knows what it’ll say next?
Vintage Trem
The Vintage Trem machine provides three historic tremolo sounds. Choose the rich complexity of the Harmonic tremolo, the soothing pulses of the Tube tremolo, or the surf and spy sounds of the Photo tremolo.
Pattern Trem
The Pattern Trem machine allows you to sequence up to eight beats of trem subdivision for some unique rhythmic sounds. Choose from a variety of waveforms, including smooth sinewaves, sharp saws, choppy pulses, and more. Easily re-trigger your pattern with a single press of the tap switch.
Autoswell
The Autoswell machine goes beyond the typical ‘volume swell’ effect, giving you four different types of swell curves to choose from, in addition to a wide range of rise times. The Depth knobs brings in a chorus/vibrato effect to the swelled signal when turned up.
Destroyer
The Destroyer machine combines bit-crushing, sample-rate reduction, and lo-fi filtering alongside vinyl scratches and warps. From an old-timey 78 record, to video-game nostalgia, to a heinously corrupted under-sampled buzz, the Destroyer machine has the power, flexibility and sonic pedigree necessary to really muck things up just right.
Quadrature
The Quadrature machine handles another spectrum of signal corruption. Choose from AM (amplitude modulation), FM (frequency modulation), or Frequency Shifting (single side band modulation) to go where few have gone before. This mode is highly flexible with a variety of waveshapes to modulate the modulation.

Reviews
Mobius sounds as glorious as its tech-spec suggests, with 24-bit, 96kHz converters, 32-bit floating-point processing and a 110dB signal-to-noise ratio.
Ingmar KiangSound on Sound
...the amount of high-quality effects [Mobius] crams inside is amazing.
Jon Bloomer
GuitarNoize
...Mobius gives you just about every modulation weapon you could ever need.
Charles SaufleyPremier Guitar
The quality of the Mobius is superb. It’s dead silent—quiet enough to use for outboard mix buss duties.
This isn't just for guitars, though, as the Mobius can handle up to +8dBu input levels, which means that all manner of signals played live or sent from a DAW are ripe for treatment.
Mobius could conceivably replace a raft of pedals in a guitarist's live rig, adding programmability and its clever pre/post functionality, while recordists will its appreciate its superb sound quality, flexible handling of input levels and sheer range of effects. As a programmable modulation pedal suitable for a variety of instruments both on stage and in the studio, the Mobius ranks among the best of its type.
Mobius boasts the power of a professional-quality rack processor while offering the convenience and immediacy of a stomp box.
Chris Gill
Guitar World
Mobius is rich, warm and detailed, with all of the expressiveness and character of classic analog effects and none of the noisy by-products.
Mobius is a pedal of very deep capabilities that exponentially widens the sound potential of a pedalboard, opens up studio and production possibilities, and can inspire whole tunes.
...it’s really a rack-style unit with all the flexibility and quality that that implies, hiding in a convenient pedal casing.
Peter HodgsonI Heart Guitar
...there are things it can do that simply aren’t possible with other modulation stompers.
There are loads of editing possibilities from a nicely laid-out set of knobs that lend themselves to quick onstage tweaks.
Trevor CurwenGuitarist
Both a workmanlike stage tool and an inspirational creativity machine, the Mobius is onestop shopping for vintage stompbox models, expressive swelling effects, and even some freakier sounds.
Darrin FoxGuitar Player
Sonically, the Mobius is highly satisfying. The vintage phasers, flangers, and chorusing all sound excellent, and, just as important, they feel right too.
This pedal is the Swiss Army knife of modulation. Not only does it cover the whole world of modulation and then some, but it does it EXTREMELY well!

Mono and Stereo Connections
Each of our Strymon digital effect pedals (excludes OB.1) have the ability to be used with mono or stereo connections. Here are 3 different connection setups you can use with these pedals.
Mono Input => Mono Output
For Compadre, Riverside, and Sunset: Connect a standard mono TS instrument cable into the INPUT and connect a mono TS instrument cable to the OUTPUT of the pedal.
For blueSky and Ola: Connect a mono TS instrument cable into the LEFT INPUT and LEFT OUTPUT for a mono connection.
For BigSky, Mobius, NightSky, TimeLine, and Volante: Connect a mono TS instrument cable into the LEFT INPUT and LEFT OUTPUT for a mono connection. On the TimeLine and Mobius ONLY, make sure that the switch on the back of the pedal is set to STEREO IN/OUT.
For all other Strymon two footswitch Strymon pedals, connect a standard mono TS instrument cable into the INPUT and connect a mono TS instrument cable to the LEFT OUTPUT of the pedal.
Mono Input => Stereo Output
For Mono INPUT and Stereo OUTPUT on our small 2 footswitch pedals: Connect a standard mono TS instrument cable into the INPUT and connect a mono TS instrument cable to both the LEFT and RIGHT OUTPUTS of the pedal. (excludes Compadre, Riverside, and Sunset)
For blueSky and Ola: Connect a mono TS instrument cable into the LEFT INPUT and a mono TS instrument cable to both the LEFT and RIGHT OUTPUTS for stereo output.
For BigSky, Mobius, NightSky, TimeLine, and Volante: Connect a mono TS instrument cable into the LEFT INPUT and both LEFT and RIGHT OUTPUTS for stereo output. On the TimeLine and Mobius ONLY, make sure that the switch on the back of the pedal is set to STEREO IN/OUT.
Stereo Input => Stereo Output
For Stereo input and Stereo output on our small 2 footswitch pedals (except blueSky and Ola), you must first open up the pedal to move the internal jumper over the LEFT 2 pins to set the pedal for TRS Stereo input.
Once the pedal is set for TRS Stereo input, make sure to use a TRS Stereo cable into the INPUT and connect a mono TS instrument cable to both the LEFT and RIGHT OUTPUTS of the pedal.
For blueSky and Ola: Connect a mono TS instrument cable into the LEFT and RIGHT INPUTS along with both LEFT and RIGHT OUTPUTS for stereo input and output. The internal jumper on these pedals does not need to be adjusted to work in stereo and should be left in its default position (connecting the left 2 pins when viewed from below).
For BigSky, Mobius, NightSky, TimeLine, and Volante: Connect a mono TS instrument cable into the LEFT and RIGHT INPUTS along with both LEFT and RIGHT OUTPUTS for stereo input and output. On the TimeLine and Mobius ONLY, make sure that the switch on the back of the pedal is set to STEREO IN/OUT.
External Expression Control of the Rotary Machine Speed
On the Rotary machine in the Mobius pedal, there are 2 speeds for the effect: Fast and Slow. The Fast speed is controlled by the SPEED knob, and the Slow speed is controlled by the SLOSPD parameter in the PARAMS menu (press VALUE to access PARAMS).
You can use the Mobius’ onboard TAP switch or an external TAP switch connected to the EXP input of the pedal to toggle between the Slow and Fast speeds. An expression pedal, however, will only control one of those parameters: the Fast speed which covers 255-510 bpm or the Slow speed which covers the brake (0 bpm) or 30.7 – 59.9 bpm. There is no way to control the full speed range for both Fast and Slow speeds for the Rotary machine as you can only use the TAP switch to toggle between the 2 speeds.
What expression pedal can I use?
We have tested the Moog EP-2/EP-3, Roland EV-5, Mission Engineering EP-1 and EP-25K, and they will all work with our pedals to varying degrees. (There may be others but we haven’t tested them yet.)
We recommend using expression pedals that have a minimum 25k ohm or higher potentiometer such as as the Moog EP-3 or Mission Engineering EP-25k.
How come some of my presets produce a dry signal only on my Mobius?
Chances are you have the switch on the back of the Mobius set to Pre/Post rather than Stereo.
If you are running a mono setup you’ll still need to have that switch set to its Stereo setting. The Pre/Post setting should only be used if you plan on inserting any effects into the loop of the Mobius.
How to Perform a Factory Reset Procedures on BigSky, TimeLine and Mobius
There are two reset procedures available for BigSky, Mobius, and TimeLine. There is a FACTORY PRESET RESET and a GLOBAL SETTINGS reset.
FACTORY PRESET RESET
Performing a factory preset reset will erase all custom presets you have saved in your BigSky, TimeLine or Mobius. We only suggest you do this in the event you’d like to take your entire pedal’s presets back to the factory settings.
GLOBAL SETTINGS RESET
Performing a Global Settings reset will change all the parameters in the GLOBLS menu back to factory settings.
How to Change Parameters on BigSky, TimeLine and Mobius
All reverb, delay and modulation machines on BigSky, TimeLine and Mobius share a set of common parameters in addition to some unique ones. Accessing the Parameters menu is easy.
What kind of external TAP tempo switch will work with the TimeLine, Mobius, and Flint pedals?
The Strymon TAP Favorite switch is the perfect TAP tempo switch for TimeLine, Mobius, or Flint. Please visit the TAP Favorite Product Page on our website for more information.
If you’d prefer to go with another external TAP tempo switch, we can’t recommend a specific one for you but, as long as the switch is designed with a momentary, single pole, double throw (SPDT) type switch that switches the TIP between the SLEEVE (ground or 0VDC) to the RING (5VDC) it should work fine.
If you are unsure whether or not your TAP tempo switch provides these specs we kindly ask that you please contact the manufacturer of that switch for more information.
How to Change Global Parameters on BigSky, TimeLine and Mobius
Global settings changes affect the entire BigSky, TimeLine, and Mobius regardless of what preset is active.
TimeLine and Mobius MIDI Patch Changes Reference Chart
TimeLine and Mobius presets are arranged in 100 banks of 2 presets each for a total of 200 presets. MIDI access to these presets is available as MIDI program change messages. The presets are assigned a program change sequentially, for example:
Bank 00A – Send program change #0 to recallBank 00B – Send program change #1 to recalletc…
*Please note some MIDI controllers do not start with 0 and start with 1 instead. With these controllers, MIDI PC# 1 will recall preset 00A.
Can I use an external TAP switch with Mobius?
Yes, you can connect an external TAP switch to tap tempo remotely. Use a standard TRS cable to connect the external switch to the EXP input on TimeLine. Set the EXP MD global setting to TAP to use external tap.
How can I control my Strymon Pedal with MIDI?
If you have a Strymon BigSky, Compadre, Iridium, Mobius, NightSky, Riverside, Sunset, TimeLine, or Volante pedal, you can use MIDI to control or access various parameters and features of the pedal with an external MIDI controller or another device that can send MIDI messages. Please keep in mind that although the MIDI protocol is universal, not all MIDI controllers operate in the same manner or have the same features. Please refer to your MIDI controller’s operation manual for information on how to program the device to only send the MIDI messages you want to your pedals.
How do I assign the PARAM 1 and PARAM 2 knobs on BigSky and Mobius?
To assign the parameter knobs, navigate to any common parameter in BigSky or Mobius, press and hold the VALUE encoder and turn the appropriate parameter button you are assigning to.Once you have your PARAM 1 or PARAM 2 knobs assigned make sure to save your preset or your settings will be lost.
Will Mobius Send MIDI Time or MIDI Beat Clock?
No. Although the TimeLine will accept MIDI beat and time clock from external devices, it will not send it out.
How do I set up Mobius Pre/Post Mode in a chain of pedals?
Using Mobius’ Pre/Post feature, you can place the effect before or after other effects or in front of and within the effects loop of your amplifier. Using the Pre/Post setup also automatically sets the Mobius’ output mode to buffered bypass.
Does the Rotary Machine have a Mix control?
The Rotary machine on Mobius does not have a MIX control feature.
The Rotary machine produces the sound of a rotating speaker system with independent high frequency horn and low-frequency drum components. This effect is much more harmonically complex than, say, a chorus effect. Mixing in dry signal produces unwanted phase cancellations and alters the integrity of the rotary effect.
For a mellower rotary experience, turn the Depth control down to move the ‘microphones’ away from the cabinet. Or you can use a splitter box to run the dry signal to a separate amp, which is sonically different than summing the dry signal with the effected signal and running into one amp.
How can I use the Filter Machine as a wah?
The Filter machine on Mobius contains a WAH mode that can give you a great sounding WAH effect.
Follow these steps
Does Mobius have all of the features of Orbit, Ola, Lex, and Flint?
No. Mobius is a multidimensional modulation pedal with 12 unique and tweakable mod machines.
While there are several flanger, chorus, rotary, and tremolo sounds within Mobius, the feature sets and exact sounds between those and Orbit, Ola, Lex, and Flint are not identical.
Mobius offers most of the primary features and sonic sculpting capabilities as Flint, Orbit, Ola, and Lex and in most ways takes that even further by offering a huge palette of new and unique features. Some parameters from Flint, Orbit, Ola, and Lex did not make it into the Mobius.
The rotary machine does not offer bi-amp, cab filter, cab direction and hold for brake options. Those features are available on the Lex pedal exclusively. The modulation machine on Mobius does not offer Ramp or Envelope modes but does offer five different types of chorus effect modes which is something Ola does not feature.
Mobius offers every feature found in the Orbit flanger pedal as well as the tremolo side of the Flint reverb and tremolo pedal.
How do I name and save presets on Mobius?

What are the power requirements for Mobius?
Mobius requires a power supply that provides 9VDC (center negative) at a minimum of 300mA.
Does my pedal have Balanced or Unbalanced connections?
All of the inputs and outputs on our pedals use MONO TS unbalanced connections. You can use a TRS cable to plug into the inputs and outputs of the pedals, however, there is no benefit to using TRS balanced cable over a MONO TS instrument cable.
Which Tap Divisions are available for the TimeLine and Mobius?
By default from the factory, the TimeLine and Mobius are set to work with Quarter note taps of the Tap switch to set your effect Time or Speed.
You can change the Tap Division of each preset on these pedals by changing the TAPDIV parameter in the PARAMS* menu of the pedal to the following options:
WHOLE – Whole note (Mobius only)
HALF – Half note (Mobius only)
QRTR – Quarter note
dotted – dotted 8th note
8Th – 8th note
TRPLET – 8th note triplets
16Th – 16th note
What are the Mobius pedal dimensions?
Mobius is 6.75″ wide x 5.1″ deep.
