Smart MIDI Control Distribution.

Conduit - MIDI Hub
Each of Conduit’s four bi-directional TRS jacks are independently configurable to work with most quarter-inch MIDI equipped pedals. Built-in grounding isolation ensures the quiet operation you expect from Strymon. USB MIDI Interface For Your Pedals.

Conduit - MIDI Hub
Conduit is designed to be a rock solid USB MIDI interface between your computer and your pedals. Send MIDI control change messages from a sequencer for perfectly synced pedal parameter changes. Automate pedal preset changes, load and save presets, or send SYSEX messages—all from your computer.

What is Conduit?

Conduit is a premium, easily configurable, ultra-reliable MIDI distribution box that will work with most 1/4″ MIDI equipped effects pedals, allowing you to send MIDI data coming through a traditional 5-pin DIN MIDI connection to pedals that receive MIDI data via a 1/4″ TRS connection.

It also offers the best USB computer connection available for TRS MIDI pedals, allowing you to send MIDI to your 1/4” MIDI pedals from Conduit’s USB jack.

It also can be used as a USB MIDI interface for DIN pedals, allowing it to be used for things like updating your Timeline, BigSky, or Mobius.

Will Conduit work with my TRS MIDI pedal?

Conduit has 4 different configurations that can be used to work with just about any 1/4” MIDI pedal.

Press the SET button at any time to show the configuration state of all 1/4” TRS jacks:

  • GREEN = Tip Send (bi-directional)
    • Conduit sends MIDI at the TIP and receives at the RING.
    • This is the default setting for all jacks and is what is used to connect to Strymon pedals.
    • Compatible with: Red Panda, Bondi Effects, Alexander Pedals, and Empress Effects
  • RED = Ring Send (bi-directional)
    • Conduit sends MIDI at the RING and receives at the TIP.
    • Compatible with: Chase Bliss
  • AMBER = Tip and Ring Send (MIDI OUT only)
    • Conduit sends MIDI at both the TIP and the RING.
    • This configuration can be used to connect two pedals to a single 1/4” TRS jack requiring TIP SEND MIDI communication using a TRS Y-cable adapter.

  • PURPLE = TRS Type A (MIDI OUT only)
    • Conduit sends MIDI OUT only with the RING as the current source and TIP as the current sink.
    • Compatible with: Boss 200 series, Jackson Audio, Swindler Effects, Cooper FX, Neunaber Audio

If you are unsure as to how your 1/4″ MIDI pedal receives incoming MIDI data, please refer to the user manual of the pedal for more information.

How can I change the jack configuration on Conduit?

Each of Conduit’s TRS jacks can be independently configured to one of four MIDI communication modes to accommodate a variety of different TRS MIDI pedals.

  • To change the jack configuration of Conduit’s four TRS jacks, start with Conduit disconnected from power.
  • From here, connect power to Conduit while at the same time pressing and holding the SET button.
  • All five LEDs will blink to indicate SETUP mode. The four 1/4″ TRS jack LEDs will blink with a color indicating their current configuration:

GREEN = Tip Send

RED = Ring Send

AMBER = Tip and Ring Send

PURPLE = TRS TYPE A

  • To change the configuration of the desired jack, plug a cable into the jack, then unplug it. The LED color will change to indicate the new configuration mode.
  • To save and exit SETUP mode, press the SET button once more.
  • Conduit is now ready to use.

Do I need to use a TRS cable with Conduit, or can I use a TS cable?

For any jacks that are configured for GREEN-TIP SEND configuration for pedals that receive MIDI IN data on the TIP of the cable connection (such as Strymon pedals), if you are only sending MIDI data to the pedal(s) without receiving MIDI data back, you can use mono TS (TIP/SLEEVE) cables to connect the pedal(s) to Conduit.

Also, in AMBER-TIP and RING SEND configuration, you can use mono TS cables connected to the TRS Y-Cable adapter plugged into the jack set to that mode for connecting up to two pedals that receive MIDI IN data at the TIP of the cable.

Can I use Conduit to update my Timeline, BigSky, or Mobius?

Yes, you can! Conduit works as a great choice for a MIDI interface with which to update your Timeline, BigSky or Mobius.

You can use it to connect the pedals to Nixie to update them through the software, or if your pedals have older firmware, you can use 3rd party apps to manually load newer firmware onto your pedals.

Can Conduit operate as a USB host?

The USB-C port on Conduit is used for connecting to a host computer for use as a MIDI interface on that system.  It does not support the connection of any other device to use Conduit as a USB host.  Third party pedals that can only communicate with MIDI via their own USB port cannot be connected to Conduit’s USB-C port.  These pedals would need to be connected directly to a USB host device or computer.

How can I mount Conduit to my board?

Conduit includes built-in threaded hardware and screws that can be used to mount it directly to most pedalboards.

Included in the box is a drill template and instructions you can use to easily mount your Conduit.

You can also download a drill template with instructions below.

Conduit is also light enough that it can be mounted with quality fastener tape such as Velcro® or Dual Lock™.

Why are my pedals not responding to MIDI data?

If your connected ¼” MIDI pedals are not responding to data, make sure to check with the user manual of the pedal to verify that the TRS jack configuration of the jack it is connected to is set for proper MIDI communication.  Also, ensure that the pedal is set to the correct MIDI channel that corresponds with the commands you are sending.

If you are still having issues once you’ve made sure your pedals are on the correct TRS jack configuration and MIDI channel, you can try using different TRS cables to connect your pedals to Conduit to see if that helps.

If you still have issues, please email us at support@strymon.net for further assistance.

Why is my Conduit not powering up?

If your Conduit is not powering up, double-check that you are providing the right type of power — Conduit requires 50mA at 9V DC center negative.

If you are powering from the 9V DC jack, try powering it via the USB jack to see if that powers your Conduit. If possible, try different 9V DC power sources and USB Type-C cables to see if a bad cable could be the issue.

If you still have issues, please email us at support@strymon.net for further assistance.

What are the power requirements for Conduit?

To power Conduit, we recommend a power supply that provides 9VDC (center negative) and a minimum of 50mA, center-negative polarity.  Conduit can also be powered by USB when connected to a computer and used only as a MIDI interface with the computer.

NOTE:  Conduit no longer distributes MIDI data received at the DIN MIDI IN when connected to a computer via USB.  MIDI data received at the MIDI IN port is only sent to Conduit Port 5 on the computer when USB is connected.

Do not subject your Strymon device to any voltage above 9V. Doing so will damage your device and void your warranty.
